We stayed at the Pueblo Bonito at Emerald Bay. This place was incredible! Very clean (unlike the open air market) with amazing landscape. Several mornings we sat on the balcony and had coffee. Ok I had coffee while Jen fed a local cat the leftover shrimp from the night before. You could hear the waves crashing on the beach right below. No phones, no computers...now that's a vacation for me that is! Poor Jen, I think hearing the hammers and saws as they were still building here reminded her of everyday life back at home.
Each morning as we waited and missed a couple of buses we got caught up in counting the many Iguana's that were roaming the property. One day we counted 20 in one area.
Taking the city transportation is nothing like the new light rail system in Phoenix. You had two choices of buses to get on.....air conditioned or non air conditioned. I thought about posting a picture of these buses but didn't want to scare anyone off that might be thinking about going to Mazatlan one day. In any case, we made our way into town were we visited the open air market. All I can say is it's a good thing it was "open aired" because it STUNK! While down town we saw some beautiful buildings as well as a church that was built back in the 1800's. Yes, I went to church while on vacation!
I'm not sure if Huntington Beach or Mazatlan has the best sunsets but this one is right up there. There is a story behind this sunset but will have to tell you later!
Two days went took a boat over to Stone Island...interesting place to say the least. I've never walked on a beach as much as we did here. The water was warm and we walked for hours searching for shells and starfish....oh yeah and Jen's pesos that washed out of her pocket. At the end of the day we took a taxi around to see the rest of the island. Why did the chicken cross the road? I have no idea but let me just say....on this island they ran out in front of dogs, horses, the taxi's you name it!
What an amazing trip I had in Mazatlan with my friend Jen. Going with someone who speaks the language had it's advantages and disadvantages. Jen managed to talked her way into working in the kitchen at Munchkins (a local hangout). Doris showed her how to make the best salsa and enchiladas. Now it's a secret recipe we might share with friends and family.
